Silpat Non-Stick Baking Mat Review
It seems that every other day, someone is posting a tutorial about how to make the perfect cookies. Use a little less of this ingredient, a little more of that. Chill your dough, melt your butter, yada yada. But they've all failed to mention one crucial point- to make perfect cookies, you need a Silpat non-stick baking mat!
Yes, this product is the answer to all your cookie dreams. You've probably seen it on a bunch of other food blogs already- ALL the professional bakers use it. And now I do too! The folks over at Silpat were kind enough to send me one of their half-sheet silicone baking mats to try and I am officially obsessed.
What makes this baking mat so obsess-worthy? Well, for starters, nothing sticks to it. Literally, nothing. Not even taffy or caramel. Nada. I'm guessing it's the combination of fiberglass and food grade silicone that it's made of that allow for these magical non-stick powers. Also, the mat is super flexible but it doesn't roll up like annoying parchment paper when you try to put it on the cookie sheet, it lays flat, and stays that way.
And there's more! When you're done using the mat, you just rinse it with warm water, air dry, and then you can use it again. And again. And again. And again. No more wasting money on countless cans of cooking spray and countless rolls of parchment paper. With this product, you can save money, save the environment, AND protect your baking sheets from grease build-up and discoloration. And of course, make perfect cookies, since this mat is also excellent at distributing heat evenly.
Just take a look at the cookies above. Thick, round, and uniformly baked. Those are the kind of results you will get from using a Silpat baking mat. And not just for cookies either. Everything you bake on the mat will have a bakery-perfect finish. Scones, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, galettes, you name it!
